GAPE Program Manager in Laos

The Global Association for People and the Environment (GAPE) is a Canadian NGO working primarily in Champasak Province in the southern Laos. GAPE is currently seeking applications for the Program Manager position, which will be based in Pakse City, Champasak Province. The successful candidate will likely have:

• Five or more years experience working with an NGO, social movement or network, at least three in a senior position or at the international level.
• Demonstrated commitment to ideals such as environmental sustainability; human, legal and indigenous rights; social and economic equity, local determination and empowerment; respect for diversity in culture and beliefs and local management and ownership.
• An ability and desire to travel in rural areas, adapt to differing conditions, and work together with ethnically and culturally diverse peoples in addressing issues of local importance. 
• Experience in several of the following areas: Community forest management, non-formal or formal education, indigenous affairs, environmental protection, financial management and control, gender, primary health care, organizational development, fundraising, sustainable or traditional agriculture, legal advocacy, organizational networking and community development.
• The ability to work with some 15 local staff using strong human relations (listening, mentoring, problem-solving, etc.) and organizational (planning, team-building, coordination, etc.) skills.
• Previous professional experience in Laos and an ability to communicate in the Lao language will be a significant advantage.
