(KPL) The Embassy of Australia in Laos handed over the Weaving School to the Lao Silk Textiles Museum in a ceremony held in Vientiane Capital on 23 June.

The school is located at Nongtha Tay village, Chanthaboury district, Vientiane Capital. The initiative stage of the construction was financed by Mr. Hansana Sisane, President of the Lao Silk Textiles Museum. However, in 2009, one year after its beginning, the construction was suspended as Mr. Hansana could not further finance it. By the said time over 80 per cent of the construction had been carried out.

By the end of 2009, the Australian embassy in Laos showed its commitment to finance the school's construction with a grant of US$15,000.

This school has a dormitory, classrooms and exhibition hall, among others. The school is designed to teach Lao students about weaving techniques, natural colour dyeing and the production of Lao traditional clothes and textile products.

Attending the handover ceremony were Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Borsengkham Vongdara, Australian Ambassador to Laos, Dr Michele Forster, guests and representatives of parties concerned.
